The European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), the Universidade Internacional do Cuanza (UNIC) and the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER), have published the report NutriPALOP Study: Survey of eating habits and health of Angolan participants.
The study compiles the responses of 311 Angolans who voluntarily participated in a survey to learn about eating and health habits in Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP).
The study was conducted within the framework of the European Community-funded project Clinical Simulation Practice-based Learning in Nursing (CLINICALSIM), which seeks, through training, research and innovation, to promote the improvement of nursing in Angola.
Food habits, closely linked to cultural identity, are complex phenomena that reflect the interaction of social, economic and cultural factors. From deep-rooted traditions to economic influences and food availability, these elements converge to determine the diet of a community. This study recognizes the uniqueness of these elements in each culture, analyzing how traditions, economic status and food availability influence food choices, preparation methods and food acquisition patterns.
The survey in question was created with the central purpose of providing a more accurate understanding of the reality and current situation in terms of food and nutrition in Angola and the PALOP countries. This multidisciplinary approach seeks to transcend superficial statistics, exploring the cultural and socioeconomic dynamics that shape the relationship of these communities with food, thus contributing to the development of more informed and effective strategies in the field of nutritional health.
This first report provides information analyzed in relation to participants from the country of Angola.
This study is the result of the work of an international network formed by researchers, students and teachers who collaborate in the development of knowledge and research. FUNIBER has supported the initiative, in addition to coordinating the publication of the report with professors from the academic network in which it participates and with its Social Action area.
The study is fundamental to understand the challenges faced by the country in promoting health through eating habits, as well as the importance that Angolans attach to the professional role of nutritionists in health care.
