The Universidad Internacional do Cuanza (International University of Cuanza, UNIC), promoted in Angola by the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER) as part of its international network of universities, recently welcomed the ambassador of the European Union in Angola, Rosário Bento Pais, accompanied by ambassadors from different member states. They were received by the rector of the institution, Dr. Carlos Jélvez Martínez, together with Angolan government authorities.

During the visit, the ambassador defined FUNIBER as “the first university platform with a Pan-Iberian vocation,” referring to its integrative educational model, which articulates Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries in Europe, Africa, and America. This vision is embodied in its network of on-site campuses—among them UNIC in Angola, the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic) in Spain, and the Universidad de La Romana (University of La Romana) in the Dominican Republic—complemented by a wide range of online studies, thus forming an academic, scientific, and cultural network of intercontinental scope.

FUNIBER’s model is based on horizontal and triangular cooperation that goes beyond academia and also includes cultural promotion and scientific- technical development. This work is complemented by a scholarship program that ensures that economic factors are not an impediment to accessing a quality education, thus promoting educational inclusion and equity.

The CLINICALSIM project is tangible proof of this commitment, which the diplomats were able to see during their visit. This is an initiative financed by the European Union through the Erasmus+ program and developed in consortium with institutions in Spain, Portugal, and Angola, which seeks to modernize practical training in the health area through advanced clinical simulation.

The Spanish Ambassador to Angola, Manuel María Lejarreta, highlighted UNIC’s role as a space for women’s empowerment and valued the institution’s commitment to inclusive, international, and transformative education.

From this standpoint, FUNIBER consolidates itself as a pioneer and prescriber in the construction of a Pan-Iberian academic space with a global dimension, promoting an educational diplomacy that fosters integration between peoples with common historical and linguistic ties.
