UJES presents the CLINICALSIM project at the Scientific August event

Between November 19 and 21, José Eduardo dos Santos University (UJES) held the 2025 edition of Scientific August, an event that celebrates Angola’s 50th anniversary and reinforces the institution’s commitment to innovation, scientific research, and academic development.

Marino Sungo, a professor at UJES and CLINICALSIM researcher, presented the project, its objectives, and expected results to attendees.

The ceremony was officially opened with a welcome speech by the rector of UJES, Professor Virgínia Quartin, who highlighted the importance of science as a driving force for Angola’s future and emphasized the decisive role of the university in training highly qualified professionals committed to national progress.

This was followed by the inaugural conference, dedicated to the theme: “Challenges for the implementation of the energy transition to mitigate the effects of climate change.”

The lecture was given by Prof. Dr. António A. Chivanga Barros, who presented an in-depth analysis of the urgency of the energy transition in Angola, highlighting the opportunities, challenges, and responsibility of higher education institutions in building sustainable solutions. The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Amílcar Salumbo.

The program continued with a round table discussion on the topic: “Portfolio of scientific research projects underway at UJES.” In this session, project coordinators presented the main research work underway in the different organizational units of the university, demonstrating the real impact of UJES’ scientific output in responding to the country’s social, economic, and technological challenges.

The round table was moderated by Professor André Sinela, who highlighted the importance of interdisciplinarity and academic cooperation.

The event also included a colloquium with UJES doctoral students, in which research at different stages of development was presented, highlighting the consolidation of postgraduate studies and the contribution of future doctors to national scientific advancement.

Professors, researchers, and students presented scientific papers in a wide range of areas, promoting the exchange of experiences and knowledge and strengthening the culture of research within the UJES.
